NBS Days. More than Just Nature Based Solutions

We are pleased to announce that Professor Davide Gianti, together with Dr. Luca Battisti, will take part in the NBS Days “More than Just Nature Based Solutions” – Reggio Calabria, 26–29 May 2026, hosted by Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria from 26th to 29th May 2026.

They will convene the session “Territorial Co-Management of Nature-based Solutions (NBS) in Cultural Landscapes”, which explores how NBS can be integrated into the planning and transformation of cultural landscapes, with particular attention to urban and peri-urban contexts.

The session invites contributions that combine ecological regeneration, spatial justice and heritage valorization through collaborative and place-based strategies.

In line with the objectives of the Symposium, contributions may address:

spatial and ecological dimensions of NBS in culturally significant landscapes;

co-management practices and multi-actor governance in cultural landscape transformation;

legal, institutional, and planning tools enabling integrated approaches to heritage and nature;

participatory processes and community-led initiatives in redefining urban–rural interfaces;

case studies of regeneration where cultural heritage and NBS intersect to generate new territorial narratives.

The session aims to foster dialogue across disciplines—geography, urban planning, landscape architecture, law, and environmental humanities—toward rethinking how cultural and ecological values can be jointly mobilized for resilient and inclusive territorial futures. The larger scope of this session is to mainly normalize and adopt the EU policy agenda and the Global Biodiversity monitoring framework towards the integration of NBS in urban nature plans and biodiversity plans in cities with dense, diverse urban and large metropolitan scales. In this session we also welcome papers that address the NBS Italy hub projects and extend this call for all institutions involved in the network.

The Call for Papers is now available and welcomes submissions from scholars, researchers, practitioners and institutions interested in contributing to the discussion.
